What not to Store

Items that don't belong in storage

There are a lot of things that are prohibited for the health, safety & legal reasons. If you have never rented with a storage facility before, you might not be aware of some of these restrictions.

Please do not store the following items at Secure Max Storage. For more details, please get in touch.

Food

Food will attract rodents and insects, which might, in turn, damage other items and increase risk of disease. Although we endeavour to keep a pest free environment, we can only do so much to prevent an infestation.

In addition, some items of food will emit a pungent odour as they spoil, which clothing and other goods may absorb.

Unregistered Vehicles

Even though you may keep a vehicle in storage, you will need to provide a registration record, proof of insurance and ensure that the vehicle is in good working condition.

We do not allow the storage of outdated or unregistered vehicles unless they are vintage and are of considerable value. In addition, the storing of tyres is disallowed.

Combustible, explosive or toxic materials

For obvious reasons concerning health & safety, you are prohibited from keeping any dangerous goods in your storage unit.

These items include propane tanks, oxygen tanks, gasoline, kerosene, motor oil, toxic/biological waste, corrosive acids, fertiliser, paint, explosives/fireworks, and ammunition.

Running appliances

You can store toaster, refrigerator, freezer, generator, heater but they must be disconnected, as should all electronics that run on batteries.

When put in storage, refrigerators and freezers must be clean and empty and the doors left open. If you require them to be running while in storage please discuss this with us.

Animals or Plants

Do not store any garden plants or pets, or pet related goods.

Damp or soiled goods

Please make sure goods are clean and dry when put into storage to reduce risk of mould growing. We recommend using moisture absorbent packs, and replace them often.

There might be other items which we would discourage from storing. If you have any concerns at all about the items you wish to store, please discuss them us.
